Charlie Don't Surf

I'm back to the blog, and I'm officially declaring my surf session last night my worst ever.  The conditions were decent and the company top notch -- don't get me wrong.  I just blew.

Why?
Because I've become a fat ass working for the man.

Who's the man?
Yours truly.

What am I going to do about it?

Change immediately. My focus will change to living my life -- the active outdoor life -- instead of fretting and stressing about work. I won't abandon work and it will remain a core part of my life, but I must get back to what drives me.  And that is... playing in the outdoors.  I won't abandon my computer or technology either.  I plan to use my blog as a digest for this change.  I simply need to tilt my priorities into a healthier direction.

Look at this pathetic sesh...

Seat Nirvana

I don't fly very much these days while trying to get MotionBased rolling, but if I did SeatGuru.com would be a must stop before booking every airline ticket.

Speaking of airline tickets... Kayak is my new resource for finding airline flights. They're using some slick web technology to enhance the user experience with minimal page refreshes -- cool stuff.

Inspiration Run

I don't know what I was thinking.  I'm not in great running shape but for some reason I decided to tackle this puppy the other morning. I missed a turn for my standard 3-mile run at Rodeo Beach and decided to explore more of the Miwok trail.  Felt good.  So, I kept truckin -- up nearly 900 feet of vertical.  Ugh.

Fortunately, this was one of the most beautiful days of the winter in the Bay Area -- so I forgot about the pain.  I'll be back on this run when I get in shape.

Kids are Great

Don't you just love kids...

Apple 2004

I like my iPod Mini, but I don't love it. The design is elegant and the functions are user-friendly.  But after that... I'm not sure there really is much there.  Battery life sucks and who wants to deal with uploading new music to and from the critter.

I think the rage is getting old and to be quite honest... people look ridiculous walking around with iPod headphones everywhere.  Just wait... as soon as we can stream Internet radio (Radio Paradise; LaunchCast; KPIG; etc...) anywhere who wants the burden of storing and categorizing music.  Just stream it to me real-time -- that would really make Life Random.

I'd be careful Apple.  Life is good these days but don't rest on the success of the iPod -- you could end up like Big Blue.

Cool Tech

It's fascinating to see these old photos from WWI in color -- gives perspective on the past.  I remember always thinking as a kid that my grandparents lived in a B/W world and then one day the world had color -- strange huh?

MB Dot Races

I'm experimenting with posting MotionBased Dot Races directly onto my blog. This will only work for those using Internet Explorer and the Adobe SVG Viewer.

This is my standard quick run (3-miles) from MBHQ.

Dot Date Pace Heart Rate Comments
Red 2/24/05 7:54 87% max Didn't feel great on this run. Strong headwind on the way out.  I knew was a tad bit slower than last.
Beige 2/18/05 7:51 89% max
Blue 2/14/05 8:04 86% max

Getting in the Groove

I'm getting back into running -- mostly to stay in shape for other stuff.  Although, I'm piquing interest in running a small race (something like a 10K).  Right now I'm working on speed over short distances.  My last run was less than an 8:00 min/mile albeit for just 3 miles.  I'd like to stay in that range for longer runs.  Here's my last run:
